Community Engagement

Golf Clinic

Since 2002, Corey Smith has run a Golf Clinic in the Jackson Park Golf Course District for underrepresented groups. Participants are taught the fundamentals of the game of golf (Etiquette and Character Building) that emphasize the discipline that is needed for everyday life. Summer 2014 the Golf Clinic successfully partnered with Chicago Public Schools in order to reach more kids. Each participant is provided with their own set of clubs

5K Walk and Run

Summer fitness program at Cole Park started in 2008 takes a group of 50 children and addresses the growing problem of childhood obesity in food desert communities.

Brains and Basketball

3-week summer basketball skills camp at Cole Park. 250 children can enjoy Guest appearances by Chicago NBA basketball players along with mandatory computer course taught by educators from all over Chicago.

Back to School

A partnership with Nike since 2002, an annual giveaway of book bags and other school supplies. The all-day event includes food and fun for 2500 kids at the New Horizon Steel Headquarters.

Purdue University Minority Engineering Program

New Horizon Steel sponsors multiple young aspiring engineers from Chicago for a fun week stay at Purdue University’s West Lafayette Campus. Our mission is to successfully expose engineering to underrepresented groups throughout the Chicagoland area.
