Founded by Corey Smith in 2010, New Horizon Steel is deeply invested in the future of Chicago. A longtime resident and business owner in Chicago, Smith launched League Styles Barber Shop in 1999 in the Heart of the Chatham Neighborhood, one of the most influential African American Communities in the US. On any given day, you were as likely to find an NBA MVP, Politician, Judge or working man in one of the chairs. You may find the local alderman talking about his latest community initiative. Or you could find a local man, down on his luck, looking for help with a job.

Being a social hub, League Styles opened multiple opportunities and Corey Smith began to focus on the development of the community, and instrumental in forming various non- profit youth programs. At this time, Mr. Smith also served as community liaison and public relations manager with Integrated Community Development, successfully building a great brand, developing single family housing for underrepresented groups along with renovation of multi-unit storefront/apartment buildings within the community.

After the market downturn in 2008, Smith turned his focus on new areas of development. Studying the Structural Steel market, he found there were no minority-owned African American Structural Steel Erection companies within the Chicagoland area. Launched in 2010, New Horizon Steel has quickly proven to be an innovator at the forefront of Chicago construction. NHS is an MBE/DBE steel and metal deck erection company that has produced over $60M worth of work since its inception, including a number of challenging, high profile projects. Defined by integrity, commitment to collaboration and problem-solving and to a deep connection to the community, New Horizon Steel is helping to build the Future Chicago.
